This entry level course is designed to help anyone new to the horticulture industry fulfil their health and safety responsibilities based on the good industry practices when on a horticulture site.

Who should attend

This course is for you if you:

  • Are about to enter or are new to the New Zealand horticulture industry.
  • Are unfamiliar with the basics of health and safety on a horticulture site.

What you'll learn

You will learn how to:

  • Keep yourself healthy and safe onsite.
  • Promote good mental health.
  • Comply with Health and Safety at Work Act (2015) by providing a safe workplace, training, and fostering a positive safety culture.
  • Promote a healthy and safe working environment in the horticulture industry.

At the end of the course, you'll complete a Review of Understanding. This is a set of multiple-choice questions that check your understanding of the key concepts learned during the course.

If you pass, you will be issued a Site Safety Card with the green horticulture indicator, valid for 2 years.

What you'll get

On completion of the course requirements, you’ll receive:

  • A Site Safety Card (valid for two years). The Site Safety Card will include a green 'Horticulture' indicator so anyone can see that foundational level training has been completed.

Cancellations and refunds

You can cancel or change a booking up to 5 working days before the start of the course. If you cancel more than 5 days before the start of the course, you will receive a credit on your account to be used within 12 months, or you (or your employer, if they paid for the course) can request a refund by:

Refunds are usually processed in 7 to 14 days.

Within 5 working days of the course starting, you can transfer your seat to another person from the same company. If you cancel, you or your employer will not get a refund.

Changes and cancellations can be made through your account, or through your employer if they booked you on the course.
