Each year Site Safe celebrates the hard work of all our safety advisors by recognising one individual as the “Advisor of the Year”. This year Tony Greeve, our Whanganui/Manawatu health and safety advisor, scooped the 2016 trophy, which was presented to him at the recent Safety Advisors’ Conference in Auckland.

The intent of the award is to recognise outstanding personal contribution and professional performance. The criteria involve assessing personal qualities and values, contribution to Site Safe and its members, professional knowledge and skills, and finally overall performance.

Another critical part of the assessment is the peer ratings, where each advisor selects their 'go to' advisors.

Central Regional Manager Jeff Strampel says since joining the team in 2013, Tony has been a consistent achiever and the win was well-deserved.

Tony achieved high scores across all of the judging criteria and managed to “nose out a couple of close contenders”, Jeff says.

“He is a great trainer and he has very high ethical values which gives him a strong commitment to what he’s doing. The fact that he’s a regional advisor means his self-management is a very strong asset.

“He also has strong input and provides a lot of advice and information back to us, without needing to be monitored. One of his greatest attributes is his networking and membership skills – I go to events with him where there may be a hundred people, and he’ll know everyone by their first name.

“He is really the face of Site Safe in that region.”

Tony says he was taken aback by the award, which came as something of a surprise.

“It’s nice thing to happen – it’s a bit of an acknowledgement, I suppose. There’s an element of peer review, so it’s very humbling.”
