NZQA's Targeted Review of Training

22 Dec 2015

Over the past several years NZQA has been undertaking a review of qualifications (TRoQ - Targeted Review of Qualifications), aiming to:

  • reduce duplication in qualifications
  • identify clear qualification pathways
  • ensure qualifications remain useful and relevant
  • ensure qualifications meet the needs of learners, industry, and stakeholders.

The Skills Organisation is the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) with standard setting responsibilities for the Workplace Health and Safety sector, and as such has been leading the TRoQ process for the health and safety sector.

Site Safe, along with representatives from all parts of the sector (including industry, associations, Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics, Private Training Establishments, etc) has been a part of several groups reviewing current Workplace Health and Safety qualifications available in New Zealand. The end goal being the development of a suite of qualifications for the workplace health and safety sector that meet the future needs of the sector as well as support a logical and accessible career pathway for trainees.

The Skills Organisation is now calling for feedback on four draft qualifications, with feedback sought to refine and further the second phase of development.

Feedback for these drafts closes 29 February 2016.  Please visit http://skills.org.nz/reviews/workplace-health-and-safety to view the draft qualifications and for guidance on providing feedback.  Alternatively you can contact Te Oho Reedy, Qualifications Adviser at The Skills Organisation by phoning 04 471 9660 or teohor@skills.org.nz.
